The Crab, Gouache on Board, 60 x 60 cm, Michael Taylor

Summer Salon '09.

The Summer Salon 09' invites viewers to engage with the work of a group of highly intuitive artists, it is a light and fresh show that looks back over of the year and simultaneously looks forward, allowing the viewer a glimpse of where these artists will be taking their work in the New Year.

The artists work in a wide range of media, and deal with diverse interests and concerns. Vaughn Sadie who will be showing with Fabian Saptouw at UCA in February has created Untitled (Tautology of Remembering), a silk screen print of a projector, printed onto a projection screen. Sadie's work speaks of narratives between objects.

Bronwyn Lace presents digital prints of her installation Anemophilous, her interest in a visual and conceptual exploration of space comes through strongly in these prints. They show a transferral of the freedom of movement in 3 dimensional spaces to the 2 dimensional restricted space of Paper.

For Ricky Burnett paper signifies a personal space, the paper is the space in-between, where his stream of conscious and mark making come together. he approaches his own artwork with a sense of sponteneity, his drawings are alive and enigmatic, giving an alluring sense of openness and freedom. using intuition as a basis for his production, the works are layered with text and gestural marks, giving the sense of a stream of consciousness, flowing directly from the head and heart.

In contrast to Burnett's exploration of the space in-between, Trasi Henen's paintings explore the empty spaces, left behind. Her interests range from marginal spaces in society to the processes of painting. In the paintings for this show she is tackling ideas of transience. The process of painting, layering working over and through notions surrounding the undefined and the temporal. Where boundaries intersect and blur and the moment where a painting is truely finished.

Summer Salon '09 will open on the 16th of December and will run until the 30th of January 2010
